C E R A M I C S
For most of my career, I worked as a graphic designer who also made artists' books, small collages and other works on paper. A move to Atlanta in 2003 brought me back to full-time studio work. I relearned relief printmaking, continued with artists' books, but also began to make ceramic sculpture for the first time.
My most recent series is made with red earthenware. I particularly love the color when it's fired to just the right temperature. I think of this series as "After the Apocalypse" but as a hopeful statement because of the hybrid nature of the figures emerging from the earth—alive, well yet in a new form. It could just as appropriately be called "Rebirth".
